Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how SailLab Analytics ApS (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your information during the beta testing program. This policy applies specifically to beta testers and supplements our general Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create a beta testing account, we collect:

  • Name and email address
  • Password (encrypted)
  • Profile information (optional: sailing experience, boat type, location)
  • Team affiliations and memberships

1.2 Sailing Data

When you use the app, we collect:

  • GPS location data: Latitude, longitude, timestamps
  • Motion data: Speed over ground (SOG), course over ground (COG)
  • Calculated metrics: Wind direction estimates, tack/upwind-downwind classification
  • Race data: Race participants, timestamps, detected race boundaries
  • Session metadata: Session names, dates, boat classes
  • Uploaded files: .vkx, .gpx, or other sailing log file formats

1.3 Technical Data

We automatically collect:

  • Device information: Device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers
  • App usage data: Features used, screens viewed, time spent in app, button clicks
  • Performance data: App launch time, loading speeds, memory usage
  • Crash reports: Stack traces, error messages, device state at time of crash
  • Network data: IP address, connection type, data transfer metrics

1.4 Feedback and Communications

We collect:

  • Bug reports and issue descriptions
  • Feature requests and suggestions
  • Survey responses
  • Email communications with our team
  • In-app feedback submissions

1.5 Analytics Data

We collect (via PostHog, consent-gated):

  • User engagement patterns
  • Feature adoption rates
  • Navigation flows through the app

2. How We Use Your Information

2.1 Beta Testing Purposes

We use your information to test functionality, identify and fix bugs, improve performance, enhance user experience, develop features, and analyze GPS calculations and race detection accuracy.

2.2 Communication

We use your contact information to send beta program updates, request feedback, notify you of critical bugs or security issues, inform you about new features, and respond to your support requests.

2.3 Research and Development

We may use anonymized or aggregated data to conduct sailing performance research, develop machine learning models, improve algorithms for race detection and wind estimation, and create benchmark data — all without identifying individual users.

2.4 Legal Compliance

We may use or disclose information to comply with legal obligations, respond to valid legal requests, protect our rights and property, and enforce our Terms of Service and Beta Agreement.

3. How We Share Your Information

3.1 Service Providers

We share data with third-party service providers:

  • Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage)
  • PostHog (privacy-first product analytics)
  • Sentry (crash reporting and performance monitoring)
  • Scaleway (serverless functions for sailing data processing)
  • Proton (email delivery)

These providers are contractually required to protect your data and use it only for the services they provide to us.

3.2 Team Members

If you join a team, your sailing sessions may be visible to team members, your performance data may appear in team comparisons, and team races will show data from all participants.

3.3 Aggregated Data

We may share anonymized, aggregated data in published research, with sailing organizations, or for industry benchmarking. This data cannot be used to identify individual users.

3.4 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, to comply with legal process, enforce our agreements, or protect the safety of our users or the public.

4. Data Security

4.1 Security Measures

We implement encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encryption of sensitive data at rest, access controls and authentication requirements, and regular security assessments.

4.2 Beta Software Limitations

Important: Beta software may contain security vulnerabilities that have not yet been discovered or fixed. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee complete security during the beta period.

5. Data Retention

  • Account data: Until you delete your account or request deletion
  • Sailing data: Until you delete sessions or request deletion
  • Crash reports: Up to 90 days after resolution
  • Anonymized analytics: Indefinitely
  • Feedback: Up to 2 years after beta program ends

When the beta program ends, you may migrate to the production version. If you decline, data will be deleted within 30 days.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Access and Portability

You have the right to access your personal information, export your sailing data in standard formats (.gpx, .csv), and receive a copy of your account data.

Deletion and Erasure

You can request deletion of your entire account and all associated data, specific sailing sessions, uploaded files, or personal information. Some data may be retained in backups for up to 30 days.

Withdraw Consent

You can withdraw from the beta program at any time by deleting your account, uninstalling the app, or contacting us to request removal.

7. Children's Privacy

The SailLab beta program is not intended for children under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact us immediately.

8. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international transfers, in compliance with GDPR requirements for EU/EEA residents.

9. European Union Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU/EEA, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) including: right of access, right to rectification, right to erasure, right to restrict processing, right to data portability, right to object, and right to withdraw consent.

10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, the right to opt-out of sale of personal information (we don't sell data), and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in data practices, new features, legal requirements, or feedback from beta testers. We will notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification.
